5 O'Clock Shadow

This morning when Edward crawled into our bed to cuddle before getting up; he looked at me, rubbed his chin and said "Mommy I can feel my beard growing". I about fell out of the bed laughing. A little bit later, I wanted to check his teeth that are coming in and he thought I was feeling his chin to feel his beard that is coming in.

What?!!??!?!?!

Last night Edward was taking 2 girls (from our Homeschoool Co-op) to Vacation Bible School with him as guests. I told him, you have 10 minutes before we leave to go get the girls for VBS. He goes into the bathroom and comes out with Kirk's Deoderant, and is applying it to his armpits. I ask him, "What are you doing that for?" He says "I want to smell good, not like a bad boy." Then he says "My breath stinks, I need to go brush my teeth." He goes into the bathroom brushes his teeth and his hair. He comes out to the living room where Kirk and I are talking and he is doing a Breath Check (where you cup your hand infront of your mouth and breath out so you can smell your breath to make sure it smells okay). We about died laughing. I told Kirk "You would think he was going on a D-A-T-E! Can you just imagine what he will be like when he really gets to go on a D-A-T-E?" Edward says "A Date?" We laughed again. I told Edward "Honey, you aren't taking the girls (one of them is going to be in 6th grade...the other in 2nd) on a Date, you are just taking them to VBS." He says "I still want to look good for them".

Gold Bricks Please

Edward says to me this afternoon around 4pm, Mommy can you paint me 2 bricks gold....so I can take them to VBS with me tonight? Well, it was 4pm and I was in the middle of mopping the floors. I told him I didn't have the time tonight before we left but I would do it tomorrow for him and I would check 1st with Mrs. Kliewer (I hadn't seen anything about needing bricks painted gold and was unsure what they would need them for). So when I dropped him off at VBS, we went to change his money into pennies (they were seeing if the boys or the girls could raise more pennies to feed 1000+ children overseas). They had a gold brick and Edward said "that is what I need." So I ask about it, they tell me for $5 you can get a gold brick (the bricks are to help make either the girls side or the boys side of the scale weigh more)...so we purchase it....which makes Edward really happy. They go into to the sanctuary to start for the night. I turn to Mrs. Kliewer and mention the earlier conversation with Edward about wanting me to paint 2 bricks gold, she and another homeschool mom I know, started to laugh. They said that they could picture me bringing in 2 gold painted bricks....because I am the type of mom who would drop everything to do whatever it was that Edward said he needed. I had to laugh because they are right....I would have done exactly that earlier in the day if he had asked me around noon or 1pm.

Crazy Week

This week is going to be a super crazy week for us. Edward will be attending 2 Vacation Bible Schools. He will be going to one in the morning at our church from 9 AM to Noon and then going to one at the church where our Co-op Classes are held (and where he attended AWANA's last year) from 630PM to 830PM. Plus we will still be doing our abridge program for school. He is going to be one tired little boy. He starts the evening VBS tonight and the other tomorrow morning.
I am helping with the VBS at our church, I am helping to teach the motions to the songs. It was the last position that was available. Not exactly my strong suit, I was hoping to help with crafts. Oh well, God truly must have a sense of humor....I was never a cheerleader or took dance, so I am a little out of rhythm and uncoordinated needless to say.

Science Project with a Control

Cups 3-5 and the Mystery Cup

We are learning about having a Control in a Science Experiment so we did a Science Project with Carnations. We put 1 carnation in plain water. Then we put 5 carnations in water (each glass had 2 cups of water) with red food coloring (the first glass had 1 drop of coloring per cup of water, the second glass had 2 drops of coloring per cup water, the third glass had 3 drops of coloring per cup of water, the fourth glass had 4 drops of coloring per cup of water and the fifth glass has 5 drops of coloring per cup of water). We had an extra carnation so we did a mystery color (6 drops of blue and 6 drops of red food coloring). Our experiment was to see if the coloring in the water would change the color of the leaves of the carnations. We found that the water does change the color of the veins in the carnations and the tips but not the whole leave of the carnation. The more food coloring the darker the the color. Cup 1 (not the control) and cup 2 (also not the control) the veins color change was hardly noticeable due to the small amounts of food coloring in the water. In the Mystery cup, surprisingly the color was not purple that we got but more bluish. This was very noticeable but like the other the color only was in the veins and the tips of the carnation. We also noticed that after the week was over the only flower not dying was the control, we feel that the food coloring was poisoning the flowers.

Blowin' Paint Bubbles

We are working on a Bubblogy Lapbook this summer. One of the projects is Blowing Paint Bubbles and making prints with them onto paper for an art project. We did this project today. Edward loved doing this project. We even did a bigger painting that wont be in our lapbook.

Happy Father's Day, Daddy!

Edward made this at Sunday School for Kirk, for Father's Day. It is 2 people made out of candies, these 2 people (Kirk and Edward). Note that the "Daddy" candy person is also missing his arm. Edward always makes sure that anything he draws or makes that is suppose to represent his Daddy is missing his arm too.

2009 British Challenge Soccer Camp

Edward took part of the British Challenge Soccer Camp again this year. He loved it. It is well worth what we pay for it. He learns so much. I wish we had something like this for him during the year so he could actually play in some games and hone his skills in this sport.

Crocodiles

My Mother-In-Law sent Edward this toy crocodile that you put in water for over 24 hours and it grows. The pictures above are the results of the crocodile having "soaked" in a water for almost 48 hours. He loved this and thought it was so much fun watching it grow in the big mixing bowl we have. He kept asking if he could put it in the bath tub. What cracks me up is that he has wanted one of these for a while and I kept saying no. Well my Mother-In-Law sent us a stuff box and it was one of the things that she sent to him. So that made his week, trust me!

Homeschool Convention 2009

This year Edward went to the Homeschool Convention with me. He attend Adventures in Character (AIC) while I went to workshops. He truly enjoyed himself and loved being with all the other homeschooled children.

Learning about Robotics, he got to drive the robot too. He thought that this was sooo cool.

This is a pictures of all the homeschool students who attend Adventures in Character or helped with the program (orange shirts). They said it was their largest turn-out yet. They did a little program at the end of the last day of the convention.

Happy 6th Birthday

We had Edward's 6th Birthday yesterday at All Star Adventures. He had a blast. We have 10 kids plus him. His party theme was Speed Racer. We had a local private baker do his cake and she rocked. She had never seen Speed Racer before and did the cake off of pictures I sent to her in an email attachment.

Here is a new picture of Lollipop Rain (2 months 2 1/2 weeks old) and Edward (will be 6 in 5 days). These two just love each other. I am so glad that they will grow up together.

HEA 2009 Field Day

First let me apologize for the quality of the pictures, they were taken with my cell phone. Every year we (HEA our homeschool co-op group) has a Field Day for the children at the end of the school year. This years was held indoors due to the weather, usually it is held outdoors at the park.

Puppy Love

This little gal is Edwards new "girlfriend" (she is 7). I have caught them holding hands a couple of times now. It is cute however Edward, his daddy and I have sat down and had a talk. We want him to know that God has someone already choosen for him (granted it could very well be this young lady), but we want him to know that there are boundaries and limits (especially at this age).

It poured down rain on Easter Day, so we had to postpone our Easter Egg Hunt at home until the following Day....it was yucky all morning but luckily for us it got beautiful for a couple of hours after daddy got home from work.

It poured down rain all day this year on Easter. We ended up having Taco Bell for dinner because what we were cooking got ruined. At least we can say it was dull, boring, or ordinary....right?

Local Easter Egg Hunt

We took Edward to the local Easter Egg Hunt....it should have been called Disappointment. We stood in line for over 30 minutes so that Edward could "hunt" eggs for 3 seconds. It was a huge let down, very poorly organized but Edward had fun and that is what counts...right?

Kirk brought home a new member for our family today, an early Easter present for Edward....a little girl, Basset Hound (both parents were pure bred Basset Hounds). Edward has named her Lollipop Rain Thompson. We are calling her Lolly for short. She is 8 months old. She was born Feb 12, 2009. Bear and Storm aren't exactly thrilled with her. She is enamored with Edward and he with her. She is a smart little cookie, already has figured out the stairs on the deck for getting to the yard.

Edward on the Resurrection

Yesterday at Sunday School, Edwards class made Resurrection Eggs. In the eggs there was a dime, a leather strip, a cross made of pipe cleaners, a piece of muslin fabric, a stone & a piece of purple ribbon. We went over with Edward what each item stood for in the egg. He told us the dime was for when Judas betrayed Jesus in the Garden, the leather strip was for when the beat Jesus, the cross was for when Jesus hung on it for our sins, the muslin fabric was for when they wrapped Jesus up (after they salt and peppered him (he meant the burial herbs and oils)...we were almost rolling on the floor laughing when he said this portion), the stone was for when it was tomb where Jesus was buried and also for when it was rolled away and he was gone (also the cloth goes here because it was all they found in the tomb after the stone was rolled away 3 days after his death on the cross), and the purple ribbon is royalty and Jesus's Resurrection.

Those Pearly Whites

Yesterday, Edward went to the dentist for the very first time since 2006 when he shoved his tooth up into his gum. Now before you judge and say shame on you for just now taking him...he was very traumatized be the whole gum in the tooth ordeal and the fact that it had to be surgically removed, that we felt it was best to wait until he was old enough to understand that going to the dentist was a good thing. There was also the fact that I do not feel that parents should be made to wait in the waiting room while their children are taken back to a room where you can't see what it happening to them or comfort them if they are scared. We also just had a news story about a dentist for children that was using harnesses to strap the children down to the chairs and doing other scary things to the children...this is a place that made the parents stay in the waiting room. Edward has already been traumatized enough by having to have his tooth surgically removed at 3yrs and 3 months that we just didn't want it to be further compounded by another scary or bad situation with the dentist.
I digress....I had taken Edward to get his hair cut yesterday afternoon (He had cut his bangs, so I needed it corrected) and remembered that I wasn't that far from a Children's Dentistry Office I had since coming home from the movies recently. I decided to go by see if they were taking new patients, if they took our dental insurance and what their policy about parents going in with the children was. Talk about fate....they said they were taking new patients, they took our dental insurance, and their policy was that they encouraged parents to go back with their children and oh! By The Way....we've had 3 cancellations for this time would you like to have him seen today?
Yes, why not....in my mind that way he wouldn't have time to fret about it. So they saw him. They cleaned his teeth, took x-rays, flossed his teeth, counted them and put a fluoride treatment on them (I know I have read all the issues about fluoride treatments....but I grew up taking them and I am fine, I feel people freak out to much about certain things). He was given an A+ report all around. NO CAVITIES!!!!! The teeth in relation of top to bottom line up is excellent. He has 3 of his 6 yr molars about to bust through (1 actually is already poking through)...the 4th one hasn't dropped down yet. We are so pleased with this report.
